Slumber Party

Enjoy 14 hours of family history fun with other die-hard researchers.  It's a great way to take advantage of all the IGS Library has to offer including Ancestry Library Edition and access to FamilySearch records only available at FamilySearch affiliate libraries.  Stay for a few hours or all night.  There will be optional activities throughout the event and food will be served. 
 
Registration is $20 for members and non-members.

Cemetery Picnic

Cemetery Picnic with Gravestone Cleaning Demonstration
 
Ames Middle School Cemetery Club will be demonstrating the techniques they use to clean gravestones.
 
Avon sextons will talk about some unique stones and burials they have within their cemetery.
 
We'll meet at Avon Cemetery beginning at 11 a.m. Bring your lawn chair and your lunch. A demonstration of how to clean headstones will be presented. Avon cemetery is located at 3995 Hart Avenue in Des Moines. 
Coffee and cookies provided by Vibrant Coffeehouse and Kitchen. Vibrant is located one block west of IGS at 520 East Grand Avenue.
 
 
 
A list of tools used to clean stones are as follows:
Soft nylon bristle brush
Soft rubber or plastic scraper
Small Hudson sprayer
Spray bottle for water
Simple Green
Small bucket to carry things
Water, Water, Water  (Avon Cemetery will provide water for cleaning, pleny of water is a necessary tool for cleaning)  
 
 

IGS Spring Conference

The 2024 Iowa Genealogical Society has a great turnout.  Please plan to attend future events.  There are plenty of people to visit with along with finding help for those who might need it.  Leave with a solution or maybe ideas how to break through that brick wall.

Statehood Certificates contain pedigree charts and other documentation
