Monday and Tuesday, June 9 and 10, thirty-eight members of the Iowa Genealogical Society boarded a bus and traveled to the Midwest Genealogy Center in Independence, Missouri. They were met by six other Society members and enjoyed two days of uninterrupted genealogy research. Meals were catered to the MGC library and lodging was only a few miles away. Staff from the MGC was extremely helpful and lead participants to information and sources not even considered before. The MGC copy machines and scanners were kept very busy! Many found lots of information concerning their ancestors and others found where not to look again. One person even indicated she found a “missing link” while just browsing some new books at the library. Beth Foulk, one of the past IGS conference presenters even stopped by and assisted.
Overall feedback was very positive, including comments about how helpful participants were to each other. Others commented on the free exchange of information and sources while having meals that enhanced their research. The best feedback was, “when is the next trip?”
Maybe MGC again? Maybe Fort Wayne, Indiana?
